Heroku
fortrabbit is a good and modern Heroku alternative, specifically to host PHP based websites.
# About Heroku
Heroku is a rock star. It initially created PaaS for hosting Ruby on Rails based web applications. It also invented the 12 factor App manifest and 'git push to deploy'. Then it grew and was finally acquired by Salesforce. So it lost momentum, there are even rumors that it will be sunset.
Today, there are more modern PaaS-like providers to fill the gap for enterprise web application hosting. Render, Fly and Railway are competing for former Heroku clients.
# Why fortrabbit
Consider fortrabbit another alternative if you are looking for a higher grade of abstraction. PHP runs our veins. Our mission is to bring PHPower to the PHPeople. We were one of the first PHP PaaS providers (along CloudControl and PHP fog, both RIP) with native Composer integration. In fact we offered a PHP before Heroku. We push for modern development and deployment practices, but treat legacy workflows respectfully. Heroku must make sure they can run Ruby, Java, Python and whatnot - that does not come without trade-offs - while we concentrate only on PHP. Heroku doesn't do MySQL at all, with fortrabbit instead it's an integrated component.
We can provide a better service for you with our exclusive PHP hosting. Both hosting platforms are managed — which means you can focus on coding, instead of dealing with servers. With both you simply git push to deploy. Heroku is for enterprise clients. We are serious about hosting and yet closer to you: freelancer, digital agency and startup. So we think that we can give you a better support.
