# About Laravel Cloud
Laravel Cloud is a service somewhere between PaaS and vanity hosting. It's made by Laravel Holdings Inc. and thus official part of the 'Laravel eco system'. In 2024 Laravel announced $57m in funding.
Laravel Cloud is a PaaS-like solution inspired by early PaaS solutions like Heroku and fortrabbit. It is framework-specific for Laravel with plans to open up for boarder PHP usage. It has a free tier. Actual pricing is a bit hard to understand. It seems to target well funded projects. It has many advanced features, such as hibernation and autoscaling.
# Why not Laravel Cloud
- Eye-candy is maybe not that important for you?
- You look for backward compatibility (SSH, SFTP)
- Hosting budget plays a role
- You don't want to learn a hosting platform
- Ultimate scaling sounds nice but is maybe not a hard requirement
