# Glossary
- Autoscaling The ability of a system to automatically adjust its resources based on demand, ensuring optimal performance and cost-efficiency. About autoscaling →
- Backups The number of backup copies of data that is stored. Backups are typically created at regular intervals (daily). Backups contain files on disk, plus database dumps if applicable. There is a retention period for backups, after which they are automatically deleted. About backups →
- Daily price The cost of the plan for one day. Billed when not booked for a full month in arrears. Calculated as 1/30 of the monthly price, no matter how many days a given month has. Daily aggregation →
- Database connections The number of database connections available for the PHP plan. Usually each PHP process can handle one database connection, so this correlates with the number of PHP processes. Extra connections are available to connect from a local client or different service. MySQL connections are available even when the database is not hosted on fortrabbit or not required.
- Description A summary of the plan, highlighting potential use cases.
- GiB Gibibyte, a unit of digital information storage equal to 1,073,741,824 bytes (1024^3 bytes).
- Jobs The number of background jobs that can be registered with the dashboard.
- Memory The component of a computer system that temporarily stores data and instructions for quick access by the processor, measured in bytes (MiB, GiB).
- MiB Mebibyte, a unit of digital information storage equal to 1,048,576 bytes (1024^2 bytes).
- Monthly price The cost of the plan for a full month. Billed in arrears at the end of the month when booked for a full month.
- Page views per hour The number of times a page is viewed per hour. Rough estimate. Mileage varies.
- PHP processes The number of FPM PHP processes available for handling requests. Impact performance of the web application.
- Plan The name of the tier. Indicates scaling, labeled as t-shirt size. Printed on the invoice and shown in dashboard. About plans →
- Storage The capacity to save and retrieve digital data, measured in bytes (MiB, GiB).
- Traffic The amount of data transferred egress from the server, measured in bytes (MiB, GiB).
# Concepts
- Autoscaling Autoscaling is an option that can be toggled per environment. It is enabled by default and scales components up and down automatically based on usage.
- Billing schedule Within the first few days of every new month, you will get the invoice for the service period of the last month. After receiving the invoice, the payments are due and are charged automatically.
- Currencies fortrabbit services are offered in (€) EUR and ($) USD. Different prices may apply based on the selected currency. It's also possible that prices differ by data center location.
- Grouped tiers Components are sized in ranges for predictable costs. The smallest web traffic plan, for instance, is sufficient for 96% of websites. Even with autoscaling enabled, hosting costs usually stay on the exact same level.
- Invoice archive Each payment method has an attached invoice archive to download previous invoices directly from the fortrabbit dashboard.
- Invoice threshold Invoices for partial usage may be below a minimum required invoice amount.
- Late payments Sometimes payments don't go through. That happens. We understand it. Don't panic, but take care. This article guides you through the steps.
- Payment types The fortrabbit service operates automatic monthly payments. This is how you can pay and under which conditions.
- Postpaid billing First use, then pay: Service usage is measured throughout the billing period, with costs calculated and invoiced at completion.
- Pricing structure Apps are grouping environments. Environments consist of components. Components are available in plans.
- VAT rules fortrabbit is mainly a B2B service, clients are entrepreneurs or other businesses. It can also be used for B2C, clients are end consumers.
