About SiteGround
SiteGround is a privately owned hosting company, founded in 2004. It runs shared hosting, WordPress hosting and cloud hosting on Google Cloud, with data centers in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia. Site Tools is its own control panel.
Why not SiteGround?
The entry price holds for the first term only. StartUp costs €2.99 a month, prepaid for twelve months, and renews at €15.99. Git ships with GoGeek and higher plans only. SSH runs on port 18765, with keys only.
Shared hosting fits a WordPress site with a plugin stack. A Laravel app with a queue worker, a Composer build and a staging environment pushes it past what it was built for.
Why fortrabbit
fortrabbit hosts PHP apps, with Git push deploys, Composer and npm in the build, MySQL as a component, and cron jobs and workers as settings. An app has environments for staging and production. Pricing is per component, billed after use, with no renewal step.
We don't host mail or run a site builder. A site that depends on those stays better on SiteGround.
